BottleRocket is a utility to allow the use of the X10 FireCracker wireless appliance control kit under Linux, FreeBSD, NetBSD and more; porting to other systems usually just requires changing the serial port device. It covers all of the major non-GUI functions of the X10 software for windows, plus many other features.
Linux, in the tradition of UNIX-like operating systems, implements file system permissions using a rather coarse scheme. While this is sufficient for a surprisingly large set of applications, it is too inflexible for many other scenarios. For that reason, all the major commercial UNIX operating systems have extended this simple scheme in one way or the other. This is an effort to implement POSIX-like Access Control Lists for Linux. Access Control Lists are built on top of Extended Attributes, which can also be used to associate other pieces of information with files such as Filesystem Capabilities, or user data like mime type and search keywords.
The fontutils package includes the programs bpltobzr, bzrto, charspace, fontconvert, gsrenderfont, imageto, imgrotate, limn, and xbfe. For users on Linux and Unix, KDE offers a full suite of user workspace applications which allow interaction with these operating systems in a modern, graphical user interface. This includes Plasma Desktop, KDE's innovative and powerful desktop interface. Other workspace applications are included to aid with system configuration, running programs, or interacting with hardware devices. While the fully integrated KDE Workspaces are only available on Linux and Unix, some of these features are available on other platforms. In addition to the workspace, KDE produces a number of key applications such as the Konqueror Web browser, Dolphin file manager, and Kontact, the comprehensive personal information management suite. The list of applications includes many others, including those for education, multimedia, office productivity, networking, games, and much more. Most applications are available on all platforms supported by the KDE Development. KDE also brings to the forefront many innovations for application developers. An entire infrastructure has been designed and implemented to help programmers create robust and comprehensive applications in the most efficient manner, eliminating the complexity and tediousness of creating highly functional applications.
procps is a package of utilities which includes ps, vmstat, top, w, skill, snice, pgrep, pkill, free, sysctl, pmap, uptime, and kill. These utilities report what is running, who is logged in, how long the system has been running, and what is using up memory. They can be used to kill processes and change run-time kernel configuration values.
IRRToolSet is a set of policy analysis tools, written in C++. It's designed to run under UNIX, using Tcl/Tk for graphics. There are tools for generating router configuration files, displaying and checking routes, generating aggregations of networks, etc. This project was formerly known as the Routing Arbiter ToolSet (RAToolset), and was maintained by ISI.
